Accessible Screenings

The Magic Lantern wants to make sure everyone feels welcome. We currently have two types of accessible screenings, but we are always looking for ways to improve our venue to accommodate for people with additional needs. Hard of Hearing (or Descriptive Subtitles)

Every Monday evening our film will have descriptive subtitles. This means that in addition to the dialogue being subtitled (as with a foreign language film) the sounds of the film are also described in the subtitles. For example (joyful music plays) or (gunshots in background)

Relaxed Screenings

During our Relaxed Screenings, we relax our Code of Conduct. We appreciate not everyone wants to sit still for a long time in complete darkness and that the ‘normal’ level of sound in a cinema may be a bit much for some.

So, in these screenings we: -

• Keep the lights on low
• Turn down the sound
• You are free to move around
• You don’t have to remain silent
• We keep the bar open so you can get more drinks and snacks if you like
• The hatch from the bar to the cinema stays open so you can leave the auditorium but still watch the film
